New Years, New Ideas

I'm not sure if this is a resolution or not, but here goes.

I find that I don't stitch consistently partly because the necessities of life "get in the way," but also because I'll start a project that's bigger than I can deal with. What are my obstacles?

  • Sometimes it's just that - time.
  • Sometimes I lose motivation. I can only gift so many things. I have no interest in a craft business at this time.
  • Sometimes a project turns out to be simultaneously more boring and more complicated that I anticipated.
  • Sometimes the charities to which I donate don't have a need that I can fill.
So, I got to thinking about this another way.

  1. EVERY November, there is a local need for hats, gloves, scarves, and jackets.
  2. EVERY winter, folks up north need hat donations.
#2 has gotten me in trouble some years because I say I'll make a hat a week... and then I get really bored with hats.

So, here's my plan: Make something small every week in 2025. Guidelines I'm giving myself:
  • Don't make more than two of any type of project in a month (avoid the boredom factor)
  • For medium-sized projects (baby afghans, lapghans) it's okay to work on a section per week.
  • Have a list of small projects. right now, I'm thinking:
    • hats (of course)
    • fingerless gloves
    • scarves
    • baby afghans/lapghans
    • granny squares
  • Draw from the stash FIRST.
    • No buying yarn for an entire project.
    • It's okay to buy a single skein to fill out/finish a project if needed
  • Identify a set of patterns so I don't lose focus looking for one.
    • Bookmark on my phone/iPad
    • Print also (because sometimes it's just more practical)
    • I think two of each
      • hats (of course)
      • fingerless gloves
      • scarves
      • baby afghans/lapghans
      • motifs
        • granny squares
        • mile-a-minute
So... that's my plan. Put everything in it's place.
